Canva Text to Video Review

Canva text to video is metered rather than priced: an allowance of AI generations per month rather than a cost per clip. Video clip generation sits in Canva's top AI tier, which means a free account cannot make one at all, and Pro gets roughly twenty a month.

核心功能

01

An allowance, not a price

Canva does not publish a per-generation cost. It publishes monthly allowances of Standard, Premium and Ultra AI actions, and says explicitly they are upper-bound estimates you will usually land under.

02

Video clips are an Ultra-tier tool

Free accounts get no Ultra allowance at all, so they cannot generate an AI video clip. Pro gets around twenty a month and Business around forty — shared with every other Ultra tool, including Canva AI conversations.

03

Eight seconds, and no character continuity

Canva AI clips run 8 seconds with audio or 6 without; the older Magic Media video is fixed at 4. There is no character-reference mechanism in any of Canva's documentation.

Canva plans and AI allowances

Read from Canva's own pricing and AI access pages on 2026-07-28. Note that Canva Teams is now closed to new signups and has been replaced by Canva Business.

Free$0$0NoneNo
Pro$18$180/yr~20Yes, within the allowance
Business$25$250/yr~40Yes, within the allowance

Allowances are per person and do not pool across a team. Canva states these are upper bounds assuming simple prompts, and that Ultra tools stop entirely once the allowance is used rather than slowing down. An AI Pass add-on multiplies the allowance.

Canva's video features, side by side

Three different things in Canva produce video, and they are not equivalent. Only the first is what people mean by text to video.

Canva notes that image-to-video "doesn't fully support face animation", and that Canva AI is not yet available for video designs inside the editor. Prompts are English-only.

What Canva does not publish

Worth being explicit, because most comparison pages fill these gaps with numbers that are not from Canva.

Output resolution is not stated anywhere in Canva's documentation. The 1920×1080 figures in its help centre describe the design canvas, not the generated clip. Third parties claim "up to 1080p"; that is unverified.

The current model is not named. The only vendor statement naming one is a 2025 newsroom post about Google Veo 3 at the feature's launch. Canva's current help pages name no model at all, so whether it is still Veo 3, now Veo 3.1, or something else is unknown.

A per-generation cost does not exist. You cannot ask "what does one clip cost" and get an answer — only "how many do I get", and the answer is an estimate.

One number that circulates and is wrong: "five generations per month" for Pro. That came from a 2025 launch post and has been superseded by the Ultra allowance system. Several comparison sites still repeat it.

The verdict, and where Reelfo differs

Canva is not trying to be a video generation tool and reviewing it as one is unfair. It is a design suite where AI video is a garnish — one clip dropped into a deck, a social post, a title card. For that it is genuinely convenient, and $18 a month buys a great deal that has nothing to do with video.

It is the wrong tool for volume, and for anything with more than one shot in it. Twenty generations a month at eight seconds each is 160 seconds, shared with your other AI usage, and there is no mechanism for keeping a character the same across two of them.

Reelfo differs on both axes. There is no monthly ceiling — video bills per second at $0.36 to $3.00 for five seconds depending on the model, so volume is a budget question rather than a permission one. Clips run to sixteen seconds on Vidu Q3. And seven of the ten published models take character references, three to nine per shot, which is what makes a multi-shot sequence hold together.

What Reelfo does not have is the rest of Canva. No templates, no brand kit, no presentations, no design surface at all. If the video is one asset inside a larger design job, Canva is the sensible place for it.

Signing up puts 100 credits in your account, once, with no card. That is enough for the script, character and shot-list stages plus about one keyframe — it is a look at the pipeline, not a free finished reel.
